Favorite Guitar Riffs
At the end of the day, I'll always be a guitarist. Guitar will always be my favorite instrument. Here are some of my favorite guitar riffs and what I like about them.
Title Fight - Symmetry
This song features a distinct rhythm. The muted notes on the right hand, with the sliding on the left hand, are a lot a of fun to play together. The lead guitar that plays along with the rhythm fits great, and that's fun to play too. I also like the way the riff switches for the verse, where it only plays the first few notes. The muted notes make the riff for me, the rhythm they built around them is such a strong one.
The Jimi Hendrix Experience - Manic Depression
This song has a great rhythm in 3/4. The main riff is built around
1 2 + 3 +
I love the way the notes on the riff for the verse slide up, and how it all circles back to the main riff. The fact that this song is in 3/4 gives is a unique bounce. My favorite part of the riff plays at 0:25, when it goes to the open low E string and then plays the riffs on 4/5 and 2/3 of A and 2/3 of E. I also love how the main riff changes at 0:47 and starts to play the classic Hendrix bend.
Pantera - Cowboys in Hell
This riff is so much fun to play with both hands. It'll help with technique, in lining up your picking with your fingers on the fret board. This riff will never get old to me, I could play it all day. It's great for stretching your left hand, with how you keep your index finger on the third fret and make use of both the ring finger and pinky. I also love the part right after the main riff, with the upstrokes on the upbeats.
